Proudly serving communities in over 30 countries, Engel & Völkers advisors come equipped with both local and global expertise—allowing them to create unmatched, bespoke real estate experiences. Whether in the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa, or somewhere in between, there is an Engel & Völkers connection to be made and this month we’re featuring the lakefront hotspot of Geneva, Switzerland. Geneva is famous for its unique cosmopolitan flair and beautiful lakefront, lined with some of the city’s most prestigious buildings, most notably the European headquarters of the United Nations. Between its status as Switzerland’s second largest city, and its desirable location on the southwestern tip of Lake Geneva, it is not only a wonderful place to live but also an exciting real estate market. With lakes and water sports to enjoy in the summer, and access to the Alps and world-renowned ski resorts for the winter, it’s no wonder that Geneva’s has solidified itself as one of the world’s most sought-after locations. Unsurprisingly, Geneva’s quality of life ranks amongst the highest in the world. However, it also ranks as one of the Top 10 most expensive cities, and rent in Geneva is the highest in Switzerland. With that in mind, the city is also among the top 20 cities in the world with the highest number of millionaires, and the average monthly net income of residents is 5,452 Swiss francs, or $6,070 USD. Engel & Völkers Geneva | Most Expensive PropertiesSophisticated Living & Modern AmbianceEngel & Völkers Geneva opened its office at the beginning of 2023 and has already brokered a premium property in the prestigious Collonge-Bellerive district. The sale price of the property was 3,500,000 million Swiss francs, approximately $3,900,000 USD. The modern elements and bright interiors of this new villa are particularly impressive. The property offers three bedrooms and three bathrooms, an outdoor pool, a wine cellar, and a double garage. It also notably meets the highest of building standards and was built with energy efficiency in mind—making it an enticing option for buyers interested in environmentally friendly homes.Elegant Villa in the Heart of ColognyThis contemporary residence offers 5,400 of light-flooded interior square feet with six bedrooms, several bathrooms, a home cinema, and premium kitchen. The high-quality materials which finish the living and dining areas set an impressive standard which pair perfectly with the magnificent panoramic views of Lake Geneva. The villa also boasts an outdoor pool and is located in the heart of Cologny, one of the most sought-after residential areas of Geneva. The asking price is 11,000,000 Swiss francs, nearly $12,200,000 USD.Geneva’s Sought-after Residential DistrictsChampelThis upmarket residential district boasts a number of parks and green open spaces which offer the opportunity for a peaceful home base with close proximity to the city center. Champel is also home to the famous Tour de Champel, the Parc Bertrand, and the university campus—and as such, its real estate offerings cater mostly to the middle and upper segments of the market.ColognySince the end of the 17th century, magnificent and substantial country properties have been springing up in Cologny featuring a strong influence on the aesthetic flair of the city. Many of the properties include picturesque views of Lake Geneva and are among the highest-priced properties in Geneva. Its proximity to the city and overall beauty have attracted famous individuals from all across the world, including the British poet Lord Byron. In fact, the Villa Diodati was rented by Lord Byron and is now regarded as a place of cultural significance in literary history. Cologny is also home to the headquarters of the World Economic Forum (WEF) and is one of the wealthiest municipalities in Switzerland.Collonge-BelleriveAnother highly desirable district is Collonge-Bellerive, north of Cologny and situated on the shores of the lake. Prestigious residences can be found here, of which nature enthusiasts will adore for their unparalleled views of the water, swimming spots, and lush green surroundings. Geneva’s Buyer ProfileGeneva is primarily a first-home market and the majority of buyers are Swiss nationals. However, with many multinational company headquarters and the promise of a cosmopolitan lifestyle, Geneva does cater to an international audience as well. Typically, expatriates opt to rent as buying a property in Switzerland requires individuals to meet certain requirements, one of which is proof of primary residence. Accordingly, a small proportion of property buyers in Geneva come from France, Belgium, and the United Kingdom.Average Home PricesIn the most sought after markets, such as Cologny, prices per square meter for apartments average at approximately 17,900 Swiss francs (about $815 USD per square foot), and homes 24,000 Swiss francs (nearly $2,500 USD per square foot).Rare and exceptional premium properties, such as those on ‘Chemin de Ruth’ in Cologny, can exceed 30,000 Swiss francs per square meter, approximately $3,000 USD per square foot. Homes such as these enjoy unrivaled views of Lake Geneva. The British superstar Robbie Williams owned a sprawling estate near Cologny and Vandœuvres from 2021 to 2022. The mansion spanned over 350 square meters and reportedly cost approximately 29,000,000 million Swiss francs ($32,300,000 USD).Market & Homebuying TrendsNew construction of premium propertiesNew construction projects in desirable neighborhoods are among the most sought-after properties in Geneva, including a number of developments that are currently in the process of completion. Building laws in Geneva change regularly, and are typically announced in July to identify where new construction will be permitted. Undeveloped plots of land are incredibly rare, making it more common to see the redevelopment of older structures into detached houses and luxury apartment buildings. Modernization of old buildingsBuyers in Geneva have historically found success in acquiring older apartments and renovating them to their unitque specifications, notably energy efficiency. While this in itself is not a new trend, it is an ongoing strategy for those homebuyers looking to relocate in Geneva. Prices continue to risePrices continue to rise in Geneva and represent a growing and stable market. Whether buying an apartment or house, prices have risen by around 12 percent per square meter since 2017, and by a further 1 percent from the first quarter of 2022 to 2023, year-over-year. Geneva’s residents not only appreciate the magnificent scenery and the well-developed infrastructure, but especially its peace and tranquillity. Compared to other countries, privacy is still very highly valued and respected in Switzerland; even stars like the Italian actress Sophia Loren can live here and can go for a relaxed walk without being asked for a photograph. I have been operating in this exciting real estate market with my Engel & Völkers team since the beginning of 2023 and we work according to one principle: there is a buyer for every property—our mission is to find them.Costas Dambassinas, Director Engel & Völkers GenevaContactFor further information about the property market in Geneva and/or referrals please contact: Costas DambassinasDirector, Engel & Völkers GenevaPhone: +41 79 437 40 70The post Global Market Insight: Geneva appeared first on Engel & Völkers.

Embrace the Outdoors: How to Elevate Hiking and Fishing ExperiencesThe great outdoors and its thrilling experiences provide an irreplaceable backdrop to spend Father’s Day. Whether they are adrenaline-filled or spent leisurely on a bankside, sometimes, the best way to say “thank you” is to put all the distractions away and spend quality time doing one of his favorite outdoor activities. Hit the Trails: The thing that hiking expeditions and a few times around his favorite neighborhood loop have in common? Fresh air, the serenity of the outdoors, and great company. No matter the elevation of your Father’s Day hike, elevate your surprise adventure by packing lunch and a camera and looking into the perfect trail, conservatory, or national park to spend the day at. Cast a Line: For those who love fishing, organizing a memorable Father’s Day trip can be the perfect way to prioritize his favorite hobbies and enjoy quality time together. Dive into the Day: For When He Wants a Day on the WaterSet sail for a day spent at sea and embrace the beauty of the coastline. Whether it is on a boat, in a kayak, or spent taking a dip—celebrate Father’s Day with the beginning of the summer season’s sweet breezes, sunny days, and serendipitous adventures. Sailboat Rental: Find a local marina, boating center, or chartering service that offers boat rentals; this way, he can enjoy all the perks of being on the water without any of the responsibilities. Whether it’s a small sailboat or a larger vessel, a lowkey day trip, or a sunset cocktail cruise, the experiences uniquely found on the waters always paint the perfect picture of cherished memories with those we love. Kayaking Expedition: If you want to take a more active approach, explore your communities’ scenic waterways, rivers, lakes, or coastlines firsthand with a kayaking adventure. This unique point of view will help you both discover the hidden gems others would zip by on a boat. This immersive experience will bring you closer to each other and the wonders of your natural surroundings.3. Get Creative: Dive into DIY DelightsUse Father’s Day as a hands-on opportunity to create something meaningful and unique. There are a myriad of projects and concepts to embark on together—the only limit is your imagination. Unleash your creativity and share an engaging experience while creating something meaningful and unique to remind you of the day for years to come. Build and Bond: Choose a project that aligns with your dad’s interests, whether it’s building a birdhouse, crafting a wooden picture frame, or constructing a small piece of furniture. Find a written manual or a great YouTube channel and collaborate, learn new skills, and celebrate the joy of creating something special together.Paint and Sip: Tap into your artistic side by attending a painting class together. Many studios offer special Father’s Day sessions, providing a fun and relaxed environment to express your creativity. Follow step-by-step instructions from a professional artist, sip on refreshing beverages, and enjoy each other’s company as you create your masterpieces. It’s a fantastic way to bond, laugh, and embrace your artistic talents.4. Bond and Connect: A Memorable Day Right at Home:With a little imagination, forethought, and consideration, everything you need for some of the most memorable Father’s Day experiences rests right at home. Prioritize quality time and make memories by creating memorable “events,” which will undoubtedly be followed by the bonding, laughter, and connection that represent the essence of what Father’s Day is all about. Game Day Extravaganza: Create an unforgettable day of tournament events in the backyard or a local park. Not only will it inspire a little healthy competition, but the positive experiences of teamwork that all your friends and family can enjoy. Be it soccer, basketball, kickball, or even just tossing a frisbee, getting active and cheering each other on is a great way to spend Father’s Day. Movie Marathon: Create a cozy home theater experience for a marathon of his favorite films. Alongside a relaxing ambiance and delicious snacks, this day immersed in cinema (and its respective laughs and conversations) will not only be a chance to learn something new about each other, but a perfect excuse to indulge in the comforts of home while traveling to all the spaces and worlds of the movies you will watch. 5. Cooking Up the Perfect Day: A Father’s Day Feast to Remember:If your dad is a food lover, what better way to celebrate Father’s Day than by preparing a feast together? It is the ultimate combination of savory and sweet. New Meal Masterclass: Plan a “masterclass” where you and your dad can learn and experiment with new cooking techniques and dishes. Test out different sauces and research methods that all claim to grill vegetables “perfectly.” Going on this culinary adventure will provide all the ingredients for an unforgettable day—not only will you delight your taste, but you will also craft unforgettable memories together.Gourmet Brunch: A gourmet brunch, whether made at home or ordered from his favorite local hotspot, is a leisurely and indulgent way to celebrate Father’s Day. The surprise of a beautifully-set table, a cup of his favorite coffee, and a menu filled with his favorite items never fail to impress. 6. The Engel & Völkers Bonus: How to Pamper Him, Dad StylePampering him with a day of relaxation and indulgence can give him a chance to truly unwind, recharge, and enjoy some time to prioritize himself. And as we all know, sometimes, this can be the best gift of all. Spa Retreat: The spa treatment can be the perfect way to help him escape the stresses of daily life and indulge in the rejuvenating offerings only available at a spa. Be it a massage, facial, or just enjoying their luxurious amenities, consider which spas have the experiences and treatments he will enjoy. Look for businesses offering day passes to their saunas and pool facilities.Lake Placid, New York, was shot to center stage as the home of the 1980 Winter Olympics. In the time since, it has become a destination for those who love the outdoors, yes, but also lively restaurants, shopping, and galleries. Engel & Völkers Lake Placid advisor John Holmes suggests Whiteface Lodge, not only for its spa but as the perfect home base for a Father’s Day trip filled with activities he will never forget.Golf Getaway: If you are looking for a gift for a golf enthusiast, a surprise tee time is a sure win. Better yet, take this as an opportunity to set up a time for him and a few of his golf pals to relax, enjoy the game, and dedicate a day to their passions. And Tom Worley, an advisor for Engel & Völkers Hoboken, would have to agree: “My kids are still too young, so a round of golf with my dad and brother is one of the best gifts I could get.” From everyone at Engel & Völkers, we wish you and yours a phenomenal Father’s Day. We are pleased to welcome you to The Feel Good Issue of GG magazine—your global guide to living longer, happier, and healthier. From the stars pioneering a new way of living to the world’s premier wellness retreats, this issue is nothing short of a grand slam. In this issue, we join Serena Williams, the American tennis prodigy, who, now retired from playing is making waves again as a fitness entrepreneur. Following, GG magazine curated a dedicated guide to the trends, trailblazers, and companies forging a new future in the booming health and wellness industry. Be it the trend of forest bathing, a lesson from Michelle Obama, or Gwenyth Paltrow’s infamous company, GOOP, these are the ones to watch for those interested in the ever-expanding frontier of healthy living. Finally, unlock the serene and visionary preventative health experiences exclusively available at Austria’s Mayrlife Health Resort. Health—The New WealthLast August, Serena Williams announced the end of her tennis career in Vogue Magazine. As she stepped onto the courts in Flushing Meadow, home to the U.S. Open, 30,000 onlookers witnessed the final match of one of the greatest tennis players of all time; and, no less, it was held on the very same court where Williams won her first Grand Slam in 1999.Yet, Williams’ “play to win” mentality did not end on the courts that day. Now, you can find it as an integral part of the mission statement for her venture capital fund, Serena Ventures. And that she does. Serena Ventures, much like Serena Williams did in the world of tennis (a predominately white and wealthy sport), is setting a higher bar for venture capital; at the time of Serena Venture’s establishment, only 2% of venture capital went to women. As of last year, having raised $111 million in funding, her eponymous venture capital fund invested in 60 start-ups, 54% of which were started by women, 47% of which belonged to Black founders, and 11% of which were led by Latino/a/x founders.Forever YoungWith experts expecting the medical wellness market to reach nearly $8 trillion in its evaluation by 2030, it is clear that the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic is driving consumers to invest in a healthy lifestyle. And these trends, trailblazers, and companies are the ones to watch as the industry’s arena becomes more packed with competitors. With public figures like Elle Macpherson, Michelle Obama, Tony Robbins, and Selena Gomez (to name a few) stepping into the industry, stars, much like us, are considering and creating avenues for a happier and healthier life. From superfood companies to inspirational written, spoken, and documented tell-alls, the power of personal storytelling is an integral part of connecting with and learning from one another. And, of course, the spaces we live in can add exponential value to the quality of our lives. Enter architects like Ma Yangson and Peter Zumthor, and artists coalitions such as RxArt, who are collectively reimagining how mindful living interacts with the spaces we call “home.”Pushing the Recharge ButtonJoin GG magazine Editor & Chief, Michaela Cordes, as she explores the enriching preventative health and wellness programs of the famous Mayrlife Health Resort in Altaussee, Austria. June marks a time of vibrant celebration and reflection: Pride Month. This month-long commemoration holds profound significance as it honors and uplifts the LGBTQ+ community. Recognizing their resilience, achievements, and the ongoing struggle for equality, June is a dedicated time when individuals, communities, and businesses come together to collectively foster the diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives that promote acceptance and advocate for a more inclusive society. And what better way to do this than with the simple elegance of storytelling? A few gracious members of the Engel & Völkers network kindly agreed to tell us more about them: how they got into real estate, what their journeys have been like, where they would like to see the industry and world go, and their ideas on what we can do to get there. Chris MargettsCan you tell us about your career journey and how you found your passion in your field?I stumbled into a part-time administrative position for a real estate company over 15 years ago. I was in school for Business Management and needed to find a job to help fund my studies. From the moment I started, I found I really enjoyed what I was doing—helping others to succeed using the tools and skills I have. As the VP of Operations now, the goal is the same: being there to support and help our advisors here in Victoria in any way I can. What advice would you give to other LGBTQ+ individuals who are starting their careers and pursuing real estate?Be proud of who you are and embrace your authentic identity. Remember that your unique experiences and perspectives can bring value to your work. When you’re true to yourself, you’ll be more confident and better equipped to navigate challenges and seize opportunities.Look for real estate organizations that prioritize diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. Research companies and seek out those with inclusive policies, LGBTQ+ employee resource groups, and a track record of supporting LGBTQ+ individuals. A welcoming and affirming work environment can contribute to your professional growth and overall well-being. And last, but not least, connect with other LGBTQ+ professionals in the real estate industry. Seek out mentorship opportunities and join LGBTQ+ professional networks or associations. These connections can provide guidance, support, and valuable insights as you navigate your career. What can the industry do to be more supportive of the LGBTQ+ community? On the brokerage and company level, Engel & Völkers is extremely supportive of the LGBTQ+ community. We act ahead of the curve in making sure everyone is supported and feels welcome in the industry. Victoria, British Columbia, is also a very accepting and supportive community. If all cities and companies could be as proactive when it comes to inclusivity and support for all, the world would be a better place. Who is a changemaker that inspires you? What lesson did you learn from them?My close friends inspire me on a regular basis. A number of my friends work in a similar industry or are also members of the LGBTQ+ community, and they all inspire me to be a better person each day. They have taught me to be more open and accepting because you never know what someone is going through behind the scenes. Patience and acceptance are powerful virtues. The leadership in my brokerage and within the Engel & Völkers Network are also always ahead of the pack when it comes to change and making sure everyone in our company is included and supported. When you are proud to be a part of this network, or any network, you feel inspired to follow suit. Chris Margetts is the vice president of operations for Engel & Völkers Victoria.Charli BullardCan you tell us about your career journey and how you found your passion in your field?I graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a Management Information Systems degree. I was fortunate enough to begin working for a local oil and gas company following an internship I completed during my junior year. I went on to work for the same company for 11 years but had a passion for remodeling and flipping homes—I loved being able to create something I found beautiful.Unfortunately but fortunately, I was part of a RIF (reduction in force) at this job for the oil and gas company. When trying to figure out my next career, I was drawn to real estate and anything encompassing homes. Although I was nervous about starting a new career, it led me into a business I absolutely love and will always appreciate. The past four and a half years in real estate have been some of the hardest, yet most rewarding. Have you encountered any unique challenges or opportunities in your career? How did you navigate them?Every day in real estate is a different day for me. It is one of the many reasons I love working in this field. You come across all kinds of challenges and are continually learning something new. For me, it is important to communicate well with your clients. And that means being completely transparent—being open and honest even when facing adversity. Of course, there are times you will mess up, but as long as you are honest and own your mistake, your clients will appreciate you more, because we are all human. In your experience, what are some benefits of workplace diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging—particularly for LGBTQ+ individuals?Growing up in a more conservative state, I experienced jobs where I did not have the same rights as my coworkers or felt like I was treated differently because of my sexuality. For a while, I could have been fired for being gay, regardless of my work ethic and experience. Since I experienced this, I never take for granted a workplace that allows me to be me and treats me as an equal. Engel & Völkers was the first company that made me feel this way, and I will always be grateful to them. What advice would you give to other LGBTQ+ individuals who are starting their careers and pursuing real estate?Be yourself, continue to work hard, and always lead with clear, honest communication. I would also suggest working for a company whose values align with yours and one that will treat you with respect and inclusion. I get asked if being a gay woman has ever negatively impacted my real estate career, and if it has, I haven’t known about it.If I come across a client who doesn’t want to work with me because of my sexuality, then I don’t want to work with them. I only want to be surrounded by people who respect each other and treat others how they would like to be treated. This career is very demanding, and you want to build relationships that last a lifetime with your clients… who you work with is as much a choice for you as it is for them.Charli Bullard is an advisor for Engel & Völkers Oklahoma City.Dan NicoloffCan you tell us about your career journey and how you found your passion in your field? From early on, I found myself captivated by the world of architecture and all its different styles around the globe… this same fascination fueled my curiosity and set the stage for my journey into real estate. My parents instilled in me that real estate could be an avenue for personal, professional, and financial growth, and it really resonated with me. I have always had a curiosity to learn more about the potential the real estate industry has to offer. Throughout my travels around the world growing up, I witnessed firsthand how greatly real estate varied from region to region, each showcasing the unique characteristics and cultural fabric of its community. Before real estate, I was in corporate franchising, but I got to a point where I needed something a little different in my life and decided to pivot into real estate where I already had so much natural curiosity and interest. Have you encountered any unique challenges or opportunities in your career? How did you navigate them?Honestly, I have always had a very outgoing personality and could strike up a conversation and connect with anyone. With that being said, the greatest obstacle I faced starting out eight years ago was being new to the business and lacking industry knowledge. Recognizing this, I discovered the importance of patience and learning every aspect of the industry. In doing so, I gained the confidence to effectively collaborate and work with clients while also experiencing personal and professional growth. Are there any resources or organizations that have been particularly helpful for you in your career development?Throughout the years, the ability to so easily connect with other members of the network at brand events, like EVX, has been fantastic for career development and connecting with innovative individuals. On top of that, other networks, like the LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance, and local meetings with groups here in the Dallas Fort Worth area have created a real sense of local community for me. What can the industry do to be more supportive of the LGBTQ+ community? We work better when we work together, and if we continue to nurture inclusiveness and collaboration in our industry, we will continue to support our growth as a society. Dan Nicoloff is the director of operations and an advisor for Engel & Völkers Dallas Lakeside. On behalf of everyone at Engel & Völkers, we thank our network of LGBTQ+ members and allies for cultivating the inclusive and collaborative network of professionals that make our brand like no other. As we kick off this new month, we have yet another opportunity to support this incredible community we created together. The global luxury real estate brand continues to strengthen its presence throughout the CaribbeanEngel & Völkers announced today its newest real estate shop opening on Eleuthera Island in The Bahamas. This is the second location for the global real estate brand in The Bahamas and will be led by license partner Colin Lightbourn, who opened the brand’s first location on New Providence Island in 2017. The business currently serves the markets of New Providence, Paradise Island, Eleuthera, Abaco, Exuma, and Long Island. With the opening of Engel & Völkers brokerage in Eleuthera, services will strengthen in Governors Harbour, Harbour Island, Palmetto Point, Rock Sound, and Gregory Town—markets where Engel & Völkers Bahamas has already been actively serving. The population of Eleuthera, Harbour Island, and Spanish Wells as of the last census was 11,515, which affords miles and miles of sparsely populated, secluded beaches on any given day. The islands’ appeal comes from a rare combination of beauty, privacy, and proximity to the world’s largest economy.“The Bahamas attracts global buyers largely from the United States, Canada, Europe, and South America,” said Anthony Hitt, president and CEO, Engel & Völkers Americas. “It is an important hub from which we can now service our global clientele. Colin’s years of experience in the market have opened doors to some of the most exclusive listings and development opportunities in the region, and I look forward to his continued growth with Engel & Völkers.”With its capital city, Nassau, conveniently located 180 miles off the coast of Florida, The Bahamas has been a world-class tourist destination for decades. Beachfront vacation homes are popular among residential buyers, as the area provides a healthy holiday rental market. Buyers from Europe, Canada, and South America are attracted by the Permanent Residency program which can be achieved with the purchase of a residence of $1,500,000 or more.Buyers are drawn to its pink sand beaches, clear turquoise waters, island lifestyle, and amenities such as yachting and aviation. The Bahamas is also a low-tax financial center and popular economic residence for buyers from Canada, Europe, and South America, areas in which Engel & Völkers also serves. The Hotels Encouragement Act provides further incentives for resort and community developers looking to The Bahamas for business opportunities. “I began my real estate career by flying clients around different islands in The Bahamas and had the opportunity to explore some of the more remote locations that are now seeing new developments and increased interest,” said Lightbourn. “I founded Bahamas Waterfront Properties in 2006 and just over a decade later decided to affiliate the business with Engel & Völkers in order to better service our clients with the reach, tools, and marketing resources of a respected global brand. We’ve had great success over the past five years and now, the time is right to expand with a new shop location on Eleuthera which is one of the more beautiful islands in The Bahamas. Not only does this broaden where we can serve clients but it also presents more opportunities for our advisors to foster their own niche specializations and develop successful real estate careers.”For more information, visit bahamas.evrealestate.com.The post Engel & Völkers Expands in The Bahamas with New Eleuthera Shop Location appeared first on Engel & Völkers.

This month, we invite you to join us in celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, a time to honor and acknowledge the contributions, achievements, and vibrant cultures of the AAPI community. As a proud partner of the Asian Real Estate Association of America (AREAA) with more than 70 Engel & Völkers real estate professionals as active chapter members in their local markets, we proudly take any opportunity to highlight narratives that weave a more inclusive, compassionate industry. Today, we are pleased to introduce three Engel & Völkers professionals who have taken the time to share a part of their stories with us. Lisa Song SuttonWhat is your favorite way to honor and/or celebrate AAPI Heritage Month? I love the AAPI food scene that we have in Las Vegas—it’s really incredible. In particular, we have a robust Chinatown and Koreatown, with no shortage of amazing restaurants, each with its own unique taste.Who is an AAPI luminary that would be your dream dinner guest? Why?My dream dinner guest would be Connie Chung. As the first Asian and the second woman to ever anchor a major news network, I know she must have endless stories that I would love to hear. What is a cultural tradition that is important to you and what is the significance of its practice? One of my favorite traditions is Chuseok, Korean Thanksgiving, which is celebrated in September. Traditionally meant to show gratitude and thanks for the fall harvest, over time it has become an occasion for family and gratitude, much like American Thanksgiving. I feel very lucky to get to celebrate two Thanksgivings every year. What is an initiative, charity, or organization with a great mission that our readers could get involved with?As the first Miss Nevada of Asian descent, I am very passionate about getting involved with the local non-profit community here in my state and across the Americas. I have worked extensively with the Nevada Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) and the Boys & Girls Club and would encourage everyone to get involved with causes that mean a lot to them personally. What is one thing that people can do to support the AAPI community year-round? One of the best ways to support the AAPI community year-round is by frequenting the small businesses they own in your area—they can be found in truly every industry. As I mentioned before, I love the AAPI food scene that we have here in Las Vegas, so I try to bring as much business as possible to my favorite local AAPI-owned sushi and Korean BBQ restaurants. Owning a small business is no small feat, and from one business owner to another, I take a lot of pride in supporting my community with my patronage. Lisa Song Sutton is the License Partner of Engel & Völkers Las Vegas Spring Valley.Danny WangWhat is one of your favorite ways to celebrate your AAPI heritage?Every year, my family’s favorite way to honor our Taiwanese heritage is our Mid-Autumn Festival at the end of September. This celebration is usually a BBQ with family and friends, and guests will bring and enjoy moon cakes as a sign of family and harmony. Who is an AAPI luminary that would be your dream dinner guest? Why?Even though he passed away 16 years before I was even born, for me, it has to be Bruce Lee. Growing up, there wasn’t much Asian representation on television or in movies, and in Hollywood Bruce Lee was, and perhaps still is, the most famous Asian superstar. His name served as a commonality that helped bridge the gap between me and other kids. He was quite literally a fighter, yes, but he was also an immigrant who overcame adversity, found success, and made mistakes along the way, but continued to push forward to support his family. I think he was living proof that if you work hard and stay resilient, you can do anything you want to in life. What is a cultural tradition that is important to you and what is the significance of its practice? A lot of parents will have their children help prepare meals for large gatherings. For my family, my sister and I always helped make dumplings and Chinese meatballs. Now that I’m older, I realize how important it is to learn these skills so we can pass them on to the next generation. What is an initiative, charity, or organization with a great mission that our readers could get involved with? The Asian American Foundation (TAAF) was founded in response to the rise in anti-Asian hate and violence. Today, TAAF is doing everything possible to reverse the longstanding under-investment in our community and address the root causes of hate and discrimination. The AAPI community has a tendency to not ask for help—with a certain mentality to “solve your problem, by yourself.” But the reality is that this is everyone’s issue, our nation’s issue. Supporting powerful organizations like TAAF that are motivated to find real solutions is how we get there. What is one thing that people can do to support the AAPI community year-round? There are so many countries included in the AAPI community, and I think learning something new about one of them—whether it’s trying a cuisine you’ve never had or learning a word in a different language—can broaden your knowledge of the world. This will always show how many of us are much more connected than we may initially think. Danny Wang is an advisor with Engel & Völkers Boston.Phylicia Rodriguez-ChiuWhat is your favorite way to honor and/or celebrate AAPI Heritage Month? I love trying new food places in New York City that are owned by AAPI folks. I am deeply appreciative of those who are passionate about sharing the cuisine they grew up on with the masses. Who is an AAPI luminary that would be your dream dinner guest? Why?George Takei. I’d love to hear about his experiences, especially having to live through such tumultuous times and enduring the forced internment of Japanese Americans during World War II. In addition to his hugely impactful achievements in both acting and social justice, I also love his sense of humor and would love the chance to disappoint him with my cooking. What is a cultural tradition that is important to you and what is the significance of its practice? Lunar New Year is a holiday that is especially significant to me because it’s a time for family reunions. I love the feeling of us all being together in one house or FaceTiming with relatives in Hong Kong. As a holiday with thousands of years of history, Lunar New Year celebrations come with dozens of customs and traditions that are not only meaningful, but also fun for the whole family to embrace. We clean the house to “sweep away” the bad luck and “make room” for good fortune; we exchange red envelopes; and we cook symbolic foods that are either a play on words or are shaped to resemble money bags or gold ingots. What is an initiative, charity, or organization with a great mission that our readers could get involved with?On top of all the suffering caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the rise in hate crimes against the AAPI community is gut-wrenching to see. Stop AAPI Hate is a great resource to learn more about how you can stand united with the AAPI community. What is one thing that people can do to support the AAPI community year-round?I think it goes a long way if people give AAPI narratives a try—whether it be written stories, TV shows, or movies. Even if it’s content that you might think has nothing to do with you or is hard to relate to, engaging with AAPI-written content opens the door for everyone to gain insight into the authentic lives, struggles, and triumphs of individuals within the AAPI community. It also helps you challenge stereotypes and embrace the diversity that makes our country so incredibly rich and strong.Phylicia Rodriguez-Chiu is a data analyst for Engel & Völkers AmericasThe contributions, achievements, and diverse cultures of the AAPI community have created an influence that is visible and invaluable in our everyday lives. By embracing and appreciating AAPI heritage, we foster a sense of inclusivity, respect, and cultural exchange. While we can use this month as an opportunity to deepen our understanding of AAPI cultures, it is integral that the work continues all year long.Should you wish to learn more about the most up-to-date information regarding the AAPI community and the housing market, we invite you to join us at the 2023 AREAA Diversity and Fair Housing Summit from May 17-19, 2023, in Washington, D.C.The post Shaping the Future: AAPI Heritage Month appeared first on Engel & Völkers.

Situated on the banks of the Tiber River, the Italian capital of Rome is the country’s largest city, with a population of approximately three million. This cultural melting pot attracts visitors from all over the world with its magnificent heritage, ancient buildings, Mediterranean climate, and superb quality of life. And just like the city itself, Rome’s residential property market wasn’t built in a day.International Investment AppealOver the past several years, the city has seen a steadily increasing number of international property buyers attracted to favorable employment conditions and renowned international schools. Americans represent the largest international buyer group in the “Eternal City,” accounting for about 40% of foreign transactions. French clients participate in 20% of purchases.“Investors from abroad are looking for properties that will retain their value during periods of high inflation. They are especially interested in investments in the historic city center or the surrounding districts with good transport links to the center.”Helio Cordeiro Teixeira, Managing Director, Engel & Völkers RomeThe Most Sought-after Districts and NeighborhoodsHistory in the Heart of the CityThe most expensive residential real estate is found in the city center, where the cost per square foot can soar as high as $132,505 USD. Among the most sought-after residential areas is the historic heart of Rome. This epicenter of life and culture is steeped in history. Home to architecturally stunning buildings and the finest restaurants in the city, the district also offers municipal gardens and parks, theatres, museums, centuries-old churches, and ancient sites like the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. This part of the city is a particular magnet for investors and international clients looking for a sound investment alternative. Interest has focused increasingly on apartments in historic buildings.Families Find Space in ParioliAlso popular, Parioli is Rome’s second district and business center. On top of banks, financial corporations, and consulates, the district also boasts a diverse array of shops, bars, and restaurants—all appealing to investors. With proximity to various parks and the banks of the Tiber within walking distance, families are often drawn to Parioli. As they look to raise children, large living spaces, terraces, and balconies are in high demand in this neighborhood, where sales prices have reached up to $80,000 USD per square foot.Modern Living in Esposizione Universale RomaThe modern district of Esposizione Universale Roma, or EUR for short, was built in 1938 for a World Expo. Since then, it’s remained largely in its original form for the most part. Architecturally, the area contrasts with the monumental city center. It draws mainly families with children and young couples thanks to its public parks with lakes. At top prices, spacious apartments with balconies or terraces sell for up to $77,000 USD per square foot, while villas with gardens sell for up to 5,000 USD per square foot.Outlook: Stable Prices Expected for the Remainder of 2023The war in Ukraine, rising inflation, and subsequent economic repercussions have impacted the real estate market in Rome. Despite this, Engel & Völkers forecasts consistently high demand and a slight rise in prices for properties in prime locations this year: “Rome’s real estate market still enjoys strong demand, coupled with a limited supply of available listings. The Italian capital will remain a sought-after investment location as a result. A fact confirmed by the growing number of Investors.”Helio Cordeiro TeixeiraListing SpotlightHistoric Jewel in the Centro Storico QuarterThis luxurious apartment is located in the heart of Rome. Some of its premium features include high ceilings with stucco decorations, various floor-length windows, ceiling murals, and floor tiles individually selected to match each room. The elegant finishes and spacious, light-flooded interiors create a high-class living experience. Spanning almost 3,500 square feet, with four bedrooms, three bathrooms, an entrance hall, a dining room, and two living rooms, the property also benefits from a balcony overlooking the “Via Arenula.” The apartment is on the market with Engel & Völkers for approximately $2.5 million USD.Modern Apartment in PratiThis fully renovated apartment is situated in the highly desirable Prati district, northeast of Vatican City, and close to the city center. Read More5 Interior Design Tips to Try in Spring 2023
Every year, spring’s refreshing design trends help invite the season’s famous feelings of renewal and rejuvenation into our homes. Whether you’re looking to simply refresh and reflect, or to help your home stand out on the market, there’s no time like the present to implement some of these top interior design trends—making your living spaces lighter, brighter, and more inviting. From natural wall coverings to a fully maximalist mix and match, below you’ll find five interior design and home decor trends that should be on your radar, along with some extra advice from Engel & Völkers professionals who are hopping in on the trends themselves. Five Spring 2023 Trends You Need to TryLighten up your color paletteOne of the easiest ways to give your home a fresh, springtime feel is to lighten up its color palette. Saying goodbye to dark, moody hues doesn’t automatically mean you are limited to a sea of beiges and whites; you can also include pastels and light, bright colors—think soft pinks, pale blues, and sunny yellows. These can all be mixed in to complement your existing interior design elements while giving the space a revitalized energy. Simply swap out a few accessories or textiles and add, or update, an accent wall, and you’re good to go.Some of our favorites: Benjamin Moore has rounded up a spring edit of their premium paint offerings, of which, “Cappuccino” and “Windmill Wings” stand out in particular. And to throw any couch or chair a little love, this Pottery Barn mohair throw blanket can be the perfect, whistful touch. Embrace organic shapes, textures, and materialsOrganic shapes in furniture, textiles, and accessories have been in vogue for quite some time and show no signs of falling out. Furniture that incorporates curved lines and flowing shapes in natural materials like linen and cotton help create a relaxed, inviting atmosphere that aligns with all that spring is famous for along with the interior design industry’s latest and greatest list.In the spirit of renewal – Spring is also the perfect time to experiment with new ideas for texturally rich additions to your home. Think grasscloth wallpapers, rattan chandeliers, linen lampshades, and loose-knit blankets. Items, and materials like these, are often handmade and/or one-of-a-kind pieces that are crafted with attention to detail add a personal touch to your home. So take care when sourcing them as they’re often found where least expected (from Facebook Marketplace to 1stDibs).Some of our favorites: An original Mario Bellini Camaleonda Sofa can be hard to come across. Yet, fear not, this Rove Concepts Belia Open End Sofa is a great alternative. Mix and match patterns Mixing and matching patterns can be a bold, exciting, and often are a relatively low-commitment endeavor; making it the ultimate seasonal trend. When done correctly, the right combination can add a unique visual interest to your space. From layered florals and geometrics to stripes that play with polka dots, a cohesive color pallet can mitigate any concern of overwhelming a space with too much pattern. Even if it is incorporating new napkins, dishware, or tablecloths, no space is too big or small for the energizing impacts of mix-and-match patterns. Some of our favorites: If you are looking for the perfect gateway into a maximalist aesthetic, coffee and side tables are a beginner’s paradise—and why not start with this stunning Pink Tiger Coffee Table from Dutch Furniture?Incorporate fresh flowersNo list of spring trends would be complete without mentioning fresh flowers (and our real estate advisors agree—keep reading for how the professionals use flowers in their own homes). Flowers are the epitome of spring, the essence of the season, and, if you only incorporate one piece of advice, we highly recommend it’s this one. From statement vases in your dining nook or on your coffee table to smaller arrangements that add a touch of surprise to entryways, bathrooms, and bedside tables, fresh flowers will undoubtedly make anyone smile. Daffodils and tulips are classic favorites, and hydrangeas can help transition a space from spring to summer. Some of our favorites: Floral arrangements are an art form, and whether it is for the holidays or just a bit of added fun, learn from a professional like Martha Stewart.Bring the outdoors inLast, but certainly not least, are our outdoor spaces. As the weather invites us to enjoy patios, balconies, and gardens take the opportunity to refresh your outdoor spaces with comfortable seating, refe textiles, and plenty of plants to help establish a comfortable ambiance. Adding string lights or lanterns can also create an unmistakable glow. A more transient boundary with the outdoors can be created in each and every home. Be it adding a few plants, incorporating more natural materials like wood, wicker, and rattan, or rethinking your home’s entrances, establishing a fresh feel is at the heart of springtime living, even in urban areas with tighter living spaces. Some of our favorites: Dedicate the same attention to style and comfort that you would inside your home to your outdoor living spaces for an elevated experience. Chic seating offerings, such as this Williams Sonoma AERIN East Hampton Outdoor Sofa, capitalize on all the spring trends, from its rounded cushions to its wicker base. How Luxury Real Estate Experts Update Their Homes for Spring Come springtime, Charli Bullard of Engel & Völkers Oklahoma City has a robust approach. From the classics to bespoke touches that may not have crossed your mind, she’s updated her home for this season and beyond.I love putting out fresh tulips every week—in all rooms of the house. I prefer white but any color works. It’s really just personal preference.Change out your candles and hand soaps Bullard sources candles for her home from a local company, OliverCo.. Rather than sticking with a richer winter scent, Bullard uses the change of season as an opportunity to opt for a fresher scent for a nice, simple springtime touch. Make it peronal(ized)Bullard admittedly loves anything monogrammed, which makes for a superbly bespoke effect, and orders newly designed towelettes twice a year.Turning a new leafTo get outdoor spaces ready for the warmer temperatures around the corner, Bullard opts for more tropical foliage and swaps out existing trees and plants and accordingly. It should come as no surprise that an endless array of lush opportunities await our homes each spring. When it’s time to decide which of these would best suit your home, especially if you are considering preparing it for the market, lean on your local Engel & Völkers advisors to help guide you through the process. Happy spring! The post 5 Interior Design Tips to Try in Spring 2023 appeared first on Engel & Völkers.

Amidst the season of renewal—and its blossoming gardens, tidied homes, and time outdoors with friends and family—the reasons to love and embrace our natural surroundings are abundant and evermore. Every April, as these experiences reach full bloom, we celebrate Earth Day, and with it we are reminded of how incredible the home we all share truly is. Thus, before we embark on the latest edition of our property spotlight series, let’s look back at the history behind Earth Day. The History of Earth DayThe first-ever Earth Day took place on April 22, 1970. Although spring may seem to be the natural choice for a holiday that celebrates our natural surroundings, the choice of date is actually all the more functional.Denis Hayes and bi-partisan leaders in Congress galvanized a generation of college students to rectify decades of air and water pollution. Hayes scheduled Earth Day for April 22nd, falling directly between spring break and finals week, to increase attendance. And that it did. The inaugural Earth Day in 1970 saw 20 million participants, 10% of America’s population at the time. Recognizing a potential to tap into all Americas (and soon, the world), Hayes would go on to turn Earth Day into what it now represents: a coalition of one billion people in over 190 countries with the same desire to shape a brighter future. Earth Day, and its activists, are directly responsible for the creation of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the passage of pivotal, revolutionary environmental laws such as the National Environmental Education Act, Occupational Safety and Health Act, Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, the Endangered Species Act, and more.Access a more comprehensive history of Earth Day here. The PropertyOur latest property spotlight takes you to the Osa Peninsula of Costa Rica, where a unique listing showcases firsthand how sustainability, conservation, and community can inspire any home or business. Tucked within the canopy of the rainforest, La Cotinga is an eco-retreat where nature lovers, yogis, and conservationists are inspired by the unique intersection of luxury and purpose-driven living. The Build-Out of an Environmentally-Friendly ResortThroughout its building process, every decision came down to this question: what is best for the surrounding community and environment? The entire hotel—from its building materials to its furniture—was crafted from bamboo and locally sourced wood. Expert local artisans guided La Continga’s buildout, and no room or area was left unconsidered. Gorgeous wooden sinks, carved on site and the waterfall-esque experience provided by the showers’ local pebble flooring are just two testaments to La Continga’s commitment to sustainable building and living. Further, La Cotinga is surrounded by vast edible and medicinal gardens, including Costa Rica’s most biodiverse garden, which features more than 180 different native species. As such, guests can indulge in once-in-a-lifetime dining experiences made from an impressive menu of locally-sourced ingredients. A Legacy of Education, Sustainability, and CommunityLa Continga’s legacy is being written every single day. The hotel plays a major role in sustaining conservation initiatives that meaningfully and positively benefit its community. Be it the biological station for scientific research and conservation that calls La Cotinga home, its involvement in providing education worldwide about sustainability, or its close partnerships with local organizations that help preserve its ecosystem and support eco-tourism activities, La Continga is a catalyst in the environmental sphere.Currently listed for $2,500,000 USD by Lyne Burton of Engel & Völkers Costa Rica.No matter where in the world your life is taking you, we want to know more about how Engel & Völkers’ global reach can help you land in the home, or hotel, you dream of.
